Plantation is located in central Broward County. It is bordered by Lauderhill to the northeast, Sunrise to the north and west, Davie to the south, and Fort Lauderdale to the east.
What qualifies the city of Plantation to claim its official motto as "The Grass is Greener". Perhaps, it is the incorporated city's array of active neighborhoods, multitude of parks, entertaining festivals, and assortment of shopping choices. A total of 85,497 (according to the 2004 census) residents call Plantation home.
The City of Plantation has certainly come a long way from the undeveloped land once purchased in 1941 from the Everglades Plantation Company. Currently, the city is the fourth largest municipality in Broward County.
Plantation City Hall was the backdrop for part of the film, There's Something About Mary. Mary's childhood home was also filmed a few blocks from City Hall. Plantation Golf Course is the site of the famous Caddyshack pool scene.
Plantation residents also don't have to travel far for their shopping needs. That's because the city houses a mall and several shopping districts. The one million square-foot Broward Mall offers shoppers a variety of department stores, specialty shops, and dining options. The city also offers an open air shopping complex called The Fountains Shoppes of Distinction, as well as the popular East Sawgrass Shopping District, which features a variety of retailers and restaurants.
